“My brows were ruined when I trained in beauty therapy 20 years ago, with years of waxing and over plucking the natural shape was completely lost, I also found as I approached my late thirties the tail of my eyebrows became thinner and thinner, I rarely wear makeup as I have 2 young children, just getting them ready in the mornings is hard enough!
I didn’t want a dramatic change and was nervous about having the treatment but I’m thrilled with the results, especially as this photo is immediately after the treatment I didn’t find them at all painful and had no nasty scabbing!”
As with everything, pain thresholds differ from person to person, I use a numbing cream to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, most of my clients describe the treatment as “weird” rather than painful, there is sometimes a scratching, crunching sensation as the blade grazes the skin, I think this is caused by the brow hairs rather than the skin itself. Clients have said the next day their brows feel sensitive, a little tender but none have mentioned any severe pain. It’s always best to follow the aftercare guidelines and use only the recommended products.
If we are both happy to book the treatment I will perform a quick scratch test, which primarily is to check if you are allergic to any aspects of the treatment, not just the pigment but also the numbing creaming, sealer and aftercare cream. It’s also to check which colour pigment is best, I will blend the colours I plan to use to ensure we are happy with the results. The scratch test is a tiny scratch behind your ear so it isn’t obvious, and some dabs on the inside of your wrist.
“I was amazed, Microblading didn’t hurt at all, in fact I find plucking my eyebrows more painful that Microblading them!”
Whenever you book beauty treatments you should always check the therapist has professional training, qualifications and insurance but with a treatment like tattooing or ;Microblading this is essential for your safety and to ensure you get the best results.
Always check your therapist has:
- Professional accredited training certification.
- Specific Public Liability insurance for Microblading.
- Contaminated Waste Collection Certificate
- Tattoo and Ear Piercing Registration with the local County Council
- Treatment room must have washable floors and walls, washable couch with clean couch roll coverings
- Your therapist should open sealed, sterilised needles and hand tools in front of you and use individual sterilised dressing packs during your treatment.
- Any aftercare creams should be in sealed sachets.
When you contact me regarding Permanent Makeup I will always book an initial consultation so I can meet you and go through the treatment, I also get to see your eyebrows and we can discuss what we hope to achieve from the treatment. I will ask you to complete a consultation form, check your skin type, skin tone and check any previous medical history and any medication you may be taking (this is important as some drugs may change the way the treatment looks or lasts, worst case it could give you a nasty allergic reaction so it is paramount that you are completely honest). This is the best time for you to ask any questions you may have.
When you come for your initial consultation it’s best that you wear your makeup as you would normally and bring along any brow pencils or makeup you currently use, so I can see what is normal for you. If you have a particular shape or style you’d like to achieve it is helpful to see photos.
The treatment usually takes around an hour and a half but I always allow two hours; the first part is filling in forms, measuring, mapping and creating the shape. Then the numbing cream is applied and kept on for around 30 minutes. the actual tattooing takes around 30 minutes, then I run through after care and take photos.
You will achieve much better results if you properly prepare for your permanent makeup procedure. The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated.
Here’s how to get your skin ready your permanent makeup procedure:
- Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure
- Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face
- Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment
- Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment
- Do not work out the day of the procedure.
- Do not have Botox 3 weeks prior
- Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)
- Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.
In order to avoid excessive bleeding which will reduce the pigment retention:
- Do not drink alcohol 24 – 48 hours before your tattoo
- Do not consume coffee before your procedure
- Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)
The day of the treatment:
Gently blot the area with clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid helps minimise hardening of the lymph (scabbing). Apply a specially formulated after care balm, (I stock Tattoo Goo products) using a clean cotton bud, 3-4 times during the day. Avoid any products that contain Lanolin, Petroleum or any acids.
I recommend Tattoo Goo balm, Tattoo Goo aftercare lotion which contains Healix Gold and Panthenol which accelerates healing and moisturises without suffocating the skin, Tattoo Goo Cleansing Soap, and Tattoo Goo Revive with SPF50
Days 1-7:
Wash daily to remove bacteria and dead skin. (Don’t worry….THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!) Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night, I recommend using a specially formulated cleanser by Tattoo Goo, which is antibacterial, antimicrobial and pH balance. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows. Gently apply to the area in a smooth, stroking motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliates.
Moisturise Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton bud (or clean finger tip) and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on a wet or damp tattoo. I recommend.
PLEASE NOTE: You are unable to donate blood for up to 12 months following Semi Permanent Makeup Procedure
A day or 2 following the treatment the area will look a lot darker than anticipated, this is the initial healing stage and should only last 1-3 days, once the skin begins to heal, it may look flaky or sometimes scabbing occurs, as the damaged skin lifts the pigment colour can look faded sometimes it may even disappear, don’t panic as by week 4 the pigment is pushed back through and reappears.
But remember everyone heals differently!
Extra Tips:
• Use a fresh pillowcase
• Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour
• No facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
• Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
• Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
• Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
• Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
• Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for the first 10 days
• Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the area until fully healed.
• DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area.
Showering:
Limit your showers to 5 minutes so you do not create too much steam. Keep your face out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

The second part of your procedure should be booked between 4-6 weeks after your first.
Once healed your Microblading should last 12-18 months dependant on your skin and lifestyle.
