If you’re investing in your skin – treatments, skincare, facials… but skipping SPF, you’re undoing your results.
Daily SPF isn’t just about avoiding sunburn. It’s one of the most important things you can do to prevent premature ageing and reduce your risk of skin cancer.
☀️ Why SPF matters
Sun exposure is responsible for up to 80–90% of visible skin ageing.
We’re talking:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Pigmentation and sun spots
- Loss of firmness
- Uneven skin tone
And more importantly it significantly increases your risk of skin cancer.
As an ambassador and MASCED-accredited practitioner with Skcin, this is something I take seriously not just for aesthetics, but for your health.
⚠️ Skin Cancer: What you need to know
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, and cases are rising every year. The main types include:
- Melanoma – the most serious type, can spread quickly if not caught early
- Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) – the most common, slow-growing but can cause damage if untreated
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) – can grow and spread if ignored
What to look for:
- Moles that change shape, size or colour
- Uneven borders or multiple colours
- Sores that don’t heal
- New or unusual marks on the skin (and nails!)
Yes nails! Something many people don’t realise… skin cancer can also develop under the nails, particularly linked to repeated UV exposure from gel nail lamps.
🚫 Real Talk: sunbeds and tanning
Let’s be clear – sunbeds are NOT safe!
They massively increase your risk of skin cancer and accelerate ageing. If you want a tan, opt for fake tan instead.
But also this is important:
❌ You cannot have laser or light-based treatments if you have a real or fake tan
❌ Treatments must be postponed for at least 4 weeks after UV exposure
This is to prevent burning and protect your skin safely.
And a myth I’ll always correct:
SPF stops your skin from burning – it does NOT stop you from tanning.
You can still achieve a natural, healthy glow safely.
