If you have a tattoo that you regret, laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective way to remove those unwanted tattoos. Q-Switched lasers are considered by dermatologists to be the most effective, safe and reliable way to remove unwanted tattoos with consistent predictable results. Tattoos are made of two main types of ink: Indian ink for amateur tattoos or multi-coloured professional tattoos. Certain colours of ink are easier to treat i.e. black, dark blue, red, orange, brown colours in the tattoo respond best to treatment, but, yellow, purple, pastel colours and fleshy toned pigment can be more difficult.

For those who have decided it is time to do something about their unwanted tattoo, the options available can be overwhelming and hard to comprehend. The main questions people have about tattoo removal are usually along the lines of: How does it work? Is it safe? Which option is best for me?

The options available range from very invasive options like incisions, which can be very painful procedures leaving scarring, to much less invasive options, such as removal creams, which don’t completely remove tattoo ink and can cause skin irritation and burns.

Here at Sophia Wyatt Skin Clinic , we offer both laser and Xtract non-laser tattoo removal, our Lumina Laser is considered by Dermatologists as the safest and most efficient for tattoo removal.

Laser Tattoo Removal can be used for:

    • All skin types

    • All tattoo sizes

    • Multi-coloured tattoos

    • Semi-permanent makeup (Microblading)

    • Stubborn tattoos

    • If you’re looking for a cover up, we can also fade the tattoo

Producing fantastic results, this advanced technology works by allowing the light produced by the laser to pass through the skin and shatter the tattoo ink into tiny particles, all without burning or damaging the upper-layer of skin. Once these tattoo pigment particles have been shattered, the body will then dispose of these fragments via the body’s natural immune system.

There are several factors that affect laser tattoo removal treatments, for example the size, quality, density and colour of the tattoo: all of which will affect the number of treatments required to fade or remove the tattoo. Amateur tattoos can be quick to remove, taking 3 to 8 treatments, whereas professional tattoos vary considerably and some can take up to 15 treatments. Treatment sessions are spaced 6 to 10 weeks apart.

Our brand of choice, Lynton, is the leading manufacturing and supplier of aesthetic technologies to an extensive list of high profile clients around the world, including the NHS. A team of Ph.D. scientists and Aestheticians design develop and test all their products to ensure that their laser equipment achieves the most effective, but safest results possible.

FAQs

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
Q-Switched Lasers generate a high-powered beam of laser light in an extremely short pulse and are the most suitable lasers for tattoo removal treatment. The very short pulse of high powered laser light is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink. A gradual fading of the tattoo occurs over a series of treatments.
Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or a small blister may form.
An instant whitening of the skin is seen after treatment, but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours.
The sensation during laser tattoo removal is often described as similar to the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Pain levels can vary depending on individual tolerance and the location of the tattoo. Some clients use numbing creams to minimise discomfort.
The number of sessions required depends on factors like the tattoo’s size, ink colors, depth, and the type of laser used. Typically, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are needed for complete removal.
While most tattoo colors can be removed, black ink tends to respond best to laser treatment. Some lighter colors, like yellow and green, may be more challenging to remove but can still fade significantly.
When performed by a trained professional using the appropriate laser technology, the risk of scarring is minimal. However, individual skin type and aftercare play a role in scarring prevention.
After each session, the treated area may be red, swollen, and sensitive. These side effects usually subside within a few days. It’s essential to follow post-treatment care instructions to promote healing.
The cost varies based on the size, color, and complexity of the tattoo, as well as the number of sessions required. Consult with a tattoo removal specialist for a personalized quote.
We recommend cleansing the skin with Hypo21 skin healing spray, avoid hot showers or baths, allow any blisters to dry and heal naturally. Drink lots of water and once healed massage the skin to encourage Lymphatic drainage. Allow time between treatments the process continues to break ink down for several months.

Our Tattoo Removal Process:

Laser tattoo removal is a medical procedure that uses high-intensity laser beams to break down and remove tattoo ink from the skin. The process typically involves the following steps:

Consultation

Your journey starts with a consultation. We’ll evaluate your tattoo, run through medical history and background, discuss your goals, and create a treatment plan tailored to you. We will also do a small test patch of the tattoo to see how it reacts to the treatment and how your ski copes.

Treatment Sessions

The area to be treated is cleaned, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to minimise discomfort during the procedure. The laser emits short pulses of intense light that penetrate the skin and target the tattoo ink. Different wavelengths of laser are used depending on the ink colours. The laser energy is absorbed by the tattoo pigment, causing it to fragment into smaller particles. The sensation during the procedure feels like hot snapping, the skin will be cooled during and immediately after the treatment and Lynton Light Soothe lotion applied.

Post Treatment Aftercare

After the procedure, the treated area may blister, scab, or become swollen. Cooling the skin with a cool pack is recommended, regularly apply Lynton Light Soothe to cool the treatment area. It’s essential to keep the area clean and follow post-treatment care instructions to prevent infection and aid in healing. We recommend Hypo21 Skin Healing spray to help your skin heal quickly. When the heat sensation applies the area treated may itch and feel sensitive. Massage aids in the ink removal process as it encourages the lymphatic drainage. Don’t pick or scratch the area, massage Lynton Light Soothe or tap the area with finger tips.

Tattoo Fading

Tattoo removal usually requires multiple sessions spaced a minimum of 8 weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on factors like the tattoo’s size, colour, and the individual’s skin type. Over the course of a few months, the body’s immune system helps to gradually eliminate the fragmented ink particles. The tattoo becomes lighter with each session until it fades or is no longer visible. Complete tattoo removal is not always guaranteed, as some ink colours are more challenging to remove than others. The outcome varies from person to person. Combining other treatments such as Xtract Non-Laser removal, Dermalux LED Phototherapy and Lymphatic Drainage massage boosts results.
