FAQs

What is a full body Mole Screening and Skin Check?
A Mole Screening and Skin Check is a top to toe check using a dermatoscope for visually abnormal moles by a MASCED Accredited and experienced skin specialist – “Mole Screening” is recommended for all adults of all skin tones and backgrounds. It also includes a check for Atypical Mole Syndrome. The appointment can take up to 90 minutes. Notes and photographs are recorded and held to identify any future changes.

Prices for Mole Screening start at £60 for an individual mole, £90 for half body screen which is ideal for checking areas of the body that can’t easily be seen such as the back and scalp. Full Body screen is £160.

All screening includes, one mole or lesion of concern Dermatologist report, supporting letter and photographs to fast track any GP referrals for Dermatology removals and pathology testing. Any additional mole or lesions of concern requiring a full Dermatologist report will be charged an additional £15 each.

The definition given by the British Association of Dermatologists is “Atypical mole syndrome is a disorder of the skin which is seen in approximately 2% of the population. It is defined when an individual has more than 50 moles composed of melanocytes (pigment producing skin cells) present on their skin, and three or more are atypical (unusual) in their appearance, e.g. size and shape.”
I will take a magnified image the mole or lesion using a special medical grade Dermatoscope Lense. The images can be sent directly to your GP to request a referral. If you struggle to book a GP appointment, you have the option of sending the image to Map My Mole a team of consultant dermatologists, wo will review the images and send you a full report. This report can be forwarded to your GP to support your referral request. Alternatively, you can use MySkinDoctor to book a private consultation and treatment.
Yes. If you are worried by an abnormal, new or changing mole you can have individual moles checked. However, if you are worried about new or changing moles I recommend a Full Body Mole Check to ensure that there are no abnormal moles in areas that you cannot easily see or check yourself.

A Single Mole Check is £60 which includes Photographic imaging and consultant dermatologist report if required.

Is Mole Screening recognised by my insurer?

No. If you have private health cover you will be able to email my assessment and photographs to support your GP request for a referral.

Can I pay for my own blemish removal treatment?

Yes. You do not need a GP referral to use MySkinDoctor.

You can book online, email, WhatsApp or telephone.

Usually around 25% of patients who have a Single Mole Check will need a referral to see a Dermatologist for diagnosis, clinical review and removal for biopsy.

You can contact your GP who often accept the Dermatoscoe images and will be happy to refer you to an NHS Dermatologist, the NHS often use the MySkinDoctor service, however for a quicker response you can pay MySkinDoctor privately.

Yes. These can of course be removed. I remove Benign Skin Blemishes using advanced Electrolysis which dehydrates and coagulates the lesion or Plasma which cauterises (burns) the skin lesion. Both methods completely remove the lesions, although occasionally additional treatments may be needed to remove any skin that remains.

For insurance purposes and reassurance, a consultation and clinical review is performed before every blemish removal. I would assess and discuss the removal to ensure that you are aware of all risks and aftercare before undergoing the procedure. If a blemish is deemed high risk, or shows any signs of risk removal will be denied until a GP or Dermatologist has authorised non medic removal.

No! Although I am fully qualified, highly experienced, insured and MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer) accredited. I am NOT a medic so I am unable to send samples for pathology. This is why any suspicious lesions are referred to a GP or Dermatology.
