Microneedling also known as Collagen Induction Therapy works by encouraging your skin to produce more Collagen and generate new skin cells. Tiny pin pricks applied to the skin cause a micro trauma which triggers the skin’s healing mode, encouraging the Macrophage Cells to produce new collagen and elastin rich tissue. The new skin tissue is more even in tone and texture, firmer and brighter.

Microneedling encourages your skin to produce more Collagen and generate new skin cells.

Collagen is a structural protein in our body that binds tissues and cells together. The “glue” that helps our body maintain its shape and structure. As we age our body produces less Collagen, which effects our skin, muscle tone and joints.

Micro needling can reduce fine lines and more deep set wrinkles, it can also reduce pigmentation and sun damage and can encourage hair growth.

Needling treatments such as Permanent Makeup and Scalp Micropigmentation can improve clients brows and hair begins to regrow and thicken due to the trauma to the skin caused by the treatment.

The trauma awakens the lazy ageing skin cells and forces them back to work!

FAQs

What is Electroporation (EPN) Microneedling?

EPN is an abbreviation for Electroporation Needle. Electroporation is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to the skin’s cells in order to increase the permeability of the membranes, allowing topical products to be introduced into the cell more efficiently. Its application to the skin has been shown to significantly increase transdermal product delivery. Electroporation can be used alone or in combination with skin microneedling which enhances the range of products that can be delivered trans-dermally.

Taking skin rejuvenation treatments to the next level. EPN micro-needling is the world’s first aesthetic pen using two great technologies in one. Electroporation and Microneedling – Collagen Induction therapy.

The EPN Pen is medically approved, making this pen the only Microneedling device to combine dermal needling benefits whilst delivering advanced electroporation for superior results.

EPN Microneedling, (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is known for its incredible ability to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, delivering real results in overall skin rejuvenation. For those looking to improve the look of scars, boost collagen, or encourage hair growth, Microneedling can offer a minimally invasive solution.

Like all cosmetic procedures, microneedling isn’t risk free. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately after the procedure. You may also experience redness for a few days after.

You should always call your GP or 111 if you experience anything more serious such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Peeling

Microneedling is not suitable for you if you:

  • Anti-coagulant therapy – increases potential for bleeding – coagulation status should be checked to confirm normal clotting/bleeding profile.
  • Haemophiliacs.
  • History of keloid scarring.
  • History of radiation therapy within the application area (6mths post chemo & radiotherapy).
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Skin cancers – melanoma.
  • Fungal infections such as ringworm, blepharitis
  • Uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Active eczema, psoriasis or inflamed rosacea.
  • Oral retinoids (Roaccutane) used within 6 months prior to treatment.
  • We recommend carrying out a patch test for Fitzpatrick skin types 4 or above
  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Undiagnosed lumps or swelling

Some conditions could restrict a Microneedling treatment but not necessarily stop the treatment from taking place:

  • Allergy to topical anaesthetics.
  • Raised moles or warts.
  • Recent scar tissue (less than six months old)
  • Skin infections; impetigo, boils, conjunctivitis, wounds
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis

Three of four treatments may be recommended for mild to moderate acne scarring, whereas deeper scars and stretch marks may require upward of five treatments. An interval of 4-6 weeks between treatments is recommended with maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.

After the skin is cleansed and analysed, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied for a minimum of 20/25 minutes for areas requiring more intense needling such as body treatments.

The process typically takes less than 30 minutes, and afterwards, your skin will look pink, similar to a sunburn. Most clients describe the sensation as a scratchy feeling, a lot compare it to the same pain as plucking, waxing or epilating hair.

The needling will help deliver any products directly into the Dermal layer of the skin, boosting the skins function and feeding the cells.

Dermalux LED Phototherapy treatment can be added which calms the skin, boosts healing and and awakens the cells.

Depending on the area of your face or body being treated and the type of device used, the procedure is well-tolerated and in some cases virtually pain free, most people only feel a mild prickling sensation.

  • If you are concerned about pain or know you are sensitive to pain, a topical anaesthetic can be applied to your skin prior to treatment.
  • Your skin may be pink or red in appearance, much like a sunburn, for a couple of hours following treatment.
  • Minor pin prick bleeding and bruising is possible depending on the length of the needle used and the number of times it is pressed across the treatment area.
  • Your skin may feel warm, tight, and itchy for a short while. This should subside in 12-48 hours.

Possible side-effects:

Side effects or risks are minimal with this type of treatment and can include:

  • Minor flaking or dryness of the skin with scab formation in rare cases.
  • Milia (small white bumps) may form; these can be removed by the practitioner.
  • Hyper-pigmentation (darkening of certain areas of the skin) can occur very rarely and usually resolves after a month.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, this procedure may cause flare ups.
  • Temporary redness and mild-sunburn effects may last up to 4 days.
  • Freckles may temporarily lighten or permanently disappear in treated areas.
  • Other potential risks include crusting, itching, discomfort, bruising, infection, swelling, and failure to achieve the desired result. Permanent scarring (less than 1%) is extremely rare.

Aftercare advice

Recovery time can be as little as 48 hours and has minimal downtime options.

For some clients the skin may repair faster which will allow the redness to subside more or less straight away.

Dermalux Flex LED Can be rented to use at home to optimise the results

For skin areas that are exposed to light, you MUST wear an SPF protective cream for a minimum of 48 hours to protect from any sun damage to the skin. (I always recommended SPF as part of your ongoing skin care routine.) But NEVER apply a high street sunscreen directly after micro needling.

For the first 48 hours after Microneedling:

  • Do not apply cosmetics to the area including makeup, perfumed products, lotions or moisturisers.
  • No hot steam showers or baths
  • Avoid excessive exercise
  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Do not use sun beds
  • Do not have any other cosmetic treatments or procedures on the skin for 14 days
  • Treatment can be repeated every 4-6 weeks
