Why I’m Now Working Tuesday to Thursday – A Little Life Update

If you’ve been trying to book in with me recently, you might have noticed my diary’s a bit more compact – that’s because my clinic days are now Tuesdays to Thursdays. I wanted to share a little more about why I’ve made this change, and how it helps both you and me in the long run.

First of all, let’s talk money. Like many of you, I’m incredibly conscious of the rising cost of living. I know that looking after your skin is an investment, and I want to keep treatments as affordable and accessible as possible. One of the ways I can do this is by staying below the VAT threshold – which means I have to keep my turnover within a certain limit. Fewer working days helps me do just that, without compromising on the quality of what I offer.

Secondly, I’m a one-woman show these days. I no longer have an admin assistant or social media help, so in between your treatments, aftercare support, booking enquiries and chasing up suppliers, I’m also running the business side of things solo. It’s a lot – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I also proudly wear the badge of SKCIN Charity Ambassador – supporting the incredible skin cancer charity and raising awareness about prevention and early detection. Sometimes this means heading out to events or talking about their brilliant MASCED training (which I highly recommend for anyone in the health and beauty industry).

Outside of work, I’ve got another role I love – I’m the Chair of the PTA at my children’s secondary school Christ’s College. It’s a busy role (think meetings, fundraising, and endless WhatsApp groups!) but one I really enjoy. I also love getting the chance to speak with students about the positives of being self-employed and working in the beauty and wellness industry. My hope is to inspire them to consider a career in beauty or self-care – something that isn’t always talked about enough in schools. Like so many children, I wasn’t academic, college and university was never my thing – I really struggled at school and college and just wanted to get out there and start earning – I’ve gone on to have the most amazing career, travelling the world as a film and TV makeup artist. I’ve continued to study at my own pace, even now almost 50 and I’m studying for another qualification! And here I am, running my own clinic and working the hours that suit me and my family.

And then there’s real life: two amazing kids, a husband, my dad who all demand my time… and Doris the Dachshund, who is, of course, the real boss of the house!

In the middle of all of this? Me – running on tea, powered by ADHD, and somehow managing to keep all the plates spinning. I like to think of it as my own little superpower – chaotic, creative, and highly caffeinated.

So, thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding. By limiting my clinics to three days a week, I can give you the best of me – focused, prepared, and with a little time left over to catch my breath (or at least walk Doris).

Living next door does have its benefits – so I will be able to come in on occasions so please do contact me if you can’t make it on my set days, I’ll always do my best to help.

With gratitude and good skin always,

Sophia
