Dry, Dehydrated, Dull & flat skin treatments in

Dry and dehydrated skin are two different skin conditions that can share some of the same symptoms.

Dry skin is a skin type that doesn’t produce enough oils to keep your skin moisturized and protect it from the environment. It’s usually persistent and may be accompanied by uncomfortable symptoms like itching or tightness. The severity of these symptoms can be affected by environmental factors, like weather, and are often worse in the winter.

Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, refers to the amount of water in the skin. Healthy skin contains around 30% water, which is essential for maintaining the skin’s structure, strength, and resiliency. When your skin loses more water than it takes in, it can become dehydrated.

Top tips

Here are some tips for managing dry and dehydrated skin:

  • Moisturise regularly. Use a moisturiser that is right for your skin type.
  • Avoid hot water. Hot water can dry out the skin.
  • Use a humidifier. A humidifier can add moisture to the air, which can help to hydrate the skin.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Eating a healthy diet can help to keep the skin healthy.

What treatments are available?

Here are some of the treatments that are recommended for dry and dehydrated skin:

  • Moisturisers. Moisturisers are the most important treatment for dry and dehydrated skin. They help to add water to the skin and prevent it from losing moisture. There are many different types of moisturisers available, so it is important to choose one that is right for your skin type.
  • Humectants. Humectants are substances that attract water to the skin. They can be helpful for dry and dehydrated skin, as they can help to keep the skin hydrated. Some common humectants include glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and urea.
  • EFAs. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are important for maintaining the health of the skin. They help to keep the skin hydrated and protect it from damage. Some good sources of EFAs include fish, nuts, and seeds.
  • Avoiding hot water and harsh soaps. Hot water and harsh soaps can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can lead to dry and dehydrated skin. It is important to use a gentle cleanser and to avoid hot water when washing your face or body.
  • Exfoliating. Exfoliating can help to remove dead skin cells and improve the appearance of dry and dehydrated skin. However, it is important to exfoliate gently, as too much exfoliation can irritate the skin.
  • Wear sunscreen. Sunscreen is important for protecting the skin from sun damage, which can contribute to dry and dehydrated skin. It is important to choose a sunscreen that is broad-spectrum and has an SPF of 30 or higher.
