Verruca, warts, and fungal nails are all skin conditions that are caused by different organisms.

  • Verruca, also known as plantar warts, are a type of wart that typically appears on the soles of the feet. They are caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV). Verrucas are typically small, raised, and hard. They may be painful, especially when you put pressure on them.
  • Warts are small, raised growths on the skin that are caused by HPV. They can appear anywhere on the body, but they are most common on the hands, fingers, and feet. Warts can be small and smooth, or they can be larger and have a rough, cauliflower-like appearance. They may be painful, especially if they are located in a pressure-sensitive area.
  • Fungal nail, also known as onychomycosis, is a fungal infection of the nail. It can affect any nail, but it is most common on the toenails. Fungal nails are typically thick, discolored, and brittle. They may also be painful.

Here are some additional tips for getting rid of verrucas, warts, and fungal nails:

  • Be patient. It may take several weeks or months for the verrucas, warts, or fungal nails to go away completely.
  • Don’t pick at them. Picking at verrucas, warts, or fungal nails can spread the infection and make them worse.
  • Keep the area clean. Wash the area with soap and water regularly to prevent infection.
  • Wear shoes. If you have verrucas on your feet, wear shoes to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of your body.

What treatments are available?

There are a number of ways to get rid of verrucas, warts, and fungal nails. The best treatment option for you will depend on the severity of your condition and your individual preferences.

Here are some of the most common treatments for verrucas, warts, and fungal nails:

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) medications. There are a number of OTC medications that can be used to treat verrucas, warts, and fungal nails. These medications usually work by killing the virus or fungus that is causing the infection. Some common OTC medications for verrucas include salicylic acid, cantharidin, and trichloroacetic acid. Some common OTC medications for warts include salicylic acid, imiquimod, and podofilox. Some common OTC medications for fungal nails include tolnaftate, undecylenic acid, and ciclopirox.
  • Prescription medications. If OTC medications are not effective, your doctor may prescribe prescription medications to treat your verrucas, warts, or fungal nails. These medications are usually more effective than OTC medications, but they may also have more side effects. Some common prescription medications for verrucas include cidofovir, ingenol mebutate, and bleomycin. Some common prescription medications for warts include imiquimod, cidofovir, and ingenol mebutate. Some common prescription medications for fungal nails include terbinafine, itraconazole, and fluconazole.
  • Plasma.
  • Cryotherapy. Cryotherapy involves freezing the verrucas, warts, or fungal nails with liquid nitrogen. This can be an effective treatment, but it may be painful.
  • Electrocautery. Electrocautery involves burning the verrucas, warts, or fungal nails with an electric current. This can be an effective treatment, but it may also leave scars.
  • Surgery. Surgery is a last resort treatment for verrucas, warts, or fungal nails. It is usually only used if other treatments have not been effective.

If you are concerned about verrucas, warts, or fungal nails, you should see a doctor or dermatologist like Sophia Wyatt Skin Clinic. They can help you determine the best treatment option for you.
